Today sees an amazing piece of published writing. The article is spot on, it is the newspapers willingness to print the article that is amazing. Is this the start of the media turn I ask?

Paul Waterson writes in the Edinburgh Evening News of the truth of the smoking ban north of the border and asks the simple question – WHY?

He readily states that 34 pubs in Edinburgh & Leith have succumbed but smoking rates haven’t-a bit like the drugs war then, ie, ‘nicking’ a drug dealer doesn’t lessen the quantities sold or absorbed! He says, “When smoking was banned indoors, we were told that this was a sign of a brave new Scotland that was leading Europe.” It will lead Europe into financial oblivion that’s all, nowhere else for if 25% of Scots enjoyed a ‘wee smokey’ before the ban and 5 years later are still enjoying said ‘wee smokey’ then how much money has the Scottish government (ably assisted by Duffy et al) wasted? Seems the rest of Europe doesn’t want to be led that far.

Funnily enough today sees another report that does the total ban syndrome NO FAVOURS at all as it tells us that the quit rates soon fall after the general excitement of a new ban being imposed! Even the heart attack studies are reported at a negative of 2.4%, which is an attributable fluctuation in any given month’s figures! Fancy the Jill Pell study being ignored, blimey, this must be truth day in ‘journo world’!
