Philip Morris USA has launched a new all-American lobby group: Citizens for Tobacco Rights. It replaces Altria’s previous information site, and is noticeably more ‘militant’ in flavour. Co-sponsors are John Middleton, makers of cigars and pipe tobacco.
Citizens for Tobacco Rights joins the Australian I Deserve to be Heard campaign (Philip Morris International) and our own Forest (UK-based tobacco companies) in a tiny collection of tobacco industry-sponsored smokers’ rights groups. These select few will always be tainted by ‘tobacco money’, which is a shame because because their lavish websites are well worth a read.
