Welcome, once again to the world of truth. The world where all these so called unintended consequences roam free-much to the ignorance of many MPs who still think they are protecting peoples health! I feel so sorry for them really for they dare not admit that they were wrong, that the science was/is wrong-and is still wrong. But hey, they don’t like the smell of smoke, that’s all it is; as Bonfire Night approaches.
But the lights have finally gone out for “Luminar“, the giant Eastliegh based night-club group with 75 night life venues around the country entertaining thousands & thousands of people nightly… err… were! Shares in this progressive organisation were as high as £8.50p but the smoking ban killed their night life as the youngsters had to stop bopping to go outside for a fag. Trading was suspended as share prices ‘clocked in’ at a slightly less figure of £00.07p! today. Congratulations ASH, yet another hospitality sector business gone to the dogs smoke ban.
In October 2010 Luminar put 4 clubs up for sale as the debt crisis mounted and in May this year they were already showing a £1.1m loss placing further stress on an already big bank support system.
I have first hand knowledge of this situation as neither of my kids go ‘clubbing’ anymore-because their smoking mates don’t bother; they were sick of continually going outside for their favoured inhalations.
75 clubs closing, approximately another 3,000 unemployed to add to the hospitality sectors woeful unemployment record since July 1st, 2007 and another £500,000 per week on the Jobseekers Allowance payout. Peanuts to those who care not what the smoke free costs. But from various sources an estimation of £19bn has been concluded re SB costings to this country! At present considerably more than 20% still smoke-and why shouldn’t they? People are rebelling, slowly but surely as we are increasingly being told what we can and can’t do on a daily basis. Just think, MPs might even be told what they can drink and eat soon-and then their lights will be dimmed too!
