We welcomed a new government with some alacrity back in May-well who wouldn’t after 13 long, miserable, spend, spend, spend years of Labour policies which have left us financially…err…skint!

The coalition promised so much and brightened so many hearts but it seems that perhaps 27% of us should not have been so heartened after all as it doesn’t look as if there is a cigarette papers width between the old and the new.

Yes, we have new champions to get us some semblance of respectability but are they getting free reign or are certain members of the coalition against their work and our interests? Cameron wanted reforms of Labours worst laws to show the people they were indeed different. Clegg wanted the same, to show that the Lib/Dems were indeed liberal minded yet after setting up a “Your Freedoms” website the most obvious need for reform was discarded.

On October 13th (not a Friday!) David Nuttall presented his Ten Minute Rule Motion which in essence was all about relaxing the smoking ban. The respondent opposed to this heinous idea spent 10 minutes spouting mainly porkies in his attempt to stamp out this impudence-then they voted.

The result was 141 v 86 in favour of the opposition but that is by-he-by in the grand scheme of things, apart from the result showing that there was plenty of support for reform. However, even that is not the story as it now transpires that the Tory Whips were involved. You may well ask why, when it was only a simple motion that was being presented? The party whips are only used when the party line is ‘towed’ thus all available party members of the House are pressed into voting with the party. In David Nuttall’s case this does not seem to be so for it transpires that the whips were out to force abstentions-to a Tory members motion! I quote from the article:-

So on this basis, the largest rebellion by Tory MPs thus far was on October 13th, on the 10-Minute Rule Bill introduced by David Nuttall to relax the smoking ban (as covered here on ConHome). Not a single one of the 77 Conservative Ministers or Whips in the House of Commons participated in the division, suggesting that the Whips wanted Tory MPs to sit on their hands and abstain. In the event, 77 voted for the Bill and 38 actively opposed it, notching up 115 acts of rebellion.

Now if this is the case then it a disgraceful act by the Conservatives for it is they that promised to oust the most ridiculous laws brought in by Labour. In my book you certainly cannot get a more ridiculous law than the total smoking ban we now have.

Take away the 77 Tories that voted for Nuttall and you have a paltry 9 MPs voting in favour. Does Cameron want to embarass Nuttall so much with a 141 v 9 result in order that he never dares to propose anything like it again or have ‘CamClegg’ been seriously ‘got to’ by the anti smoking Jihad? Whatever the reason this a complete backtrack on pre election reform policies so clearly aired.

Could we also take it then that David Nuttall would have had 115 votes for his motion for the order to abstain may have been interpreted by some as ‘please vote against this motion’, who knows?

Whatever the true situation it shows to me that then “CamerClegg” union hasn’t got the bottle to stand up against the health lobby-and that is seriously bad news for all of us!

Who are the health lobby? What are the health lobby? Since when did any lobby dictate what goes on in our country? For God’s sake you nambypamby coalites, grow some balls and tell these self styled Hitlers who is actually running the country!

A tip for all you health lobby maniacs:- we are now entering the age of austerity (meaning: we are skint and need to get out of the sh*t) so why are you still hammering away at a policy that can certainly financially ruin this country for ever? Reform the ban you blind fools, allow smoking back in certain pubs/clubs and watch the internal economy start to blossom once more. Back off from your headlong flight into the pit of potlessness and give licensees the opportunity to once more run successful, responsible drinking houses. Allow Bingo halls to once more suffer the quiet hubbub of muted excitement from a full house wanting to call ‘house’. Allow clubs the opportunity to welcome their members back inside on cold winters days and nights. If cancer problems increased 4% during the first year of the smoke ban then that is proof enough that the health lobby are plainly liars when it comes to smoking; they just want control. They forced one government to divide & conquer, don’t let them force another! CamerClegg, it’s your call.
