Sad news as the Spanish parliament finally implements a total smoking ban (Jan 2nd,2011), acquiescing to the demands of the WHO & EU Tobacco Control at the same time.
The bill has been endorsed by Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, a man that I thought had a brain but appears not! Hundreds of letters & emails have flowed across the airwaves detailing exactly what has happened in this country thanks to our smoking ban, but all to no avail. The bar owners’ objections have fallen on deaf ears – mind you, at least the Spanish bar owners made some sort of protest whereas ours just sat back and awaited the inevitable torturous death that poverty brings!
So, how will Spain cope with a severe drop in tourism? How will they cope with loss of incoming government funds as bars start to close? How will they cope with the inevitable rise in unemployment?
Like our media & ‘pc’ idiots, they will blame the recession, the global markets, changing attitudes etc etc. One thing for sure, they will never admit that they themselves created the deepening economic problem they will soon have!
